Hold the cheese! Several major retailers, including Costco and Trader Joe’s, are pulling dairy products from their shelves due to potential Listeria contamination linked to Rizo-López Foods Inc. The recall, encompassing cheese, yogurt, and sour cream, comes after the CDC linked the products to a multistate Listeria outbreak, causing concern for consumers.

What’s Recalled?

The recall encompasses roughly 60 dairy products made by Rizo-López Foods. This includes popular items like:

The Listeria Threat:

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause severe illness, especially for pregnant women, young children, and older adults. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, and nausea. In severe cases, it can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or even death.

How Did It Happen?

The source of the contamination is still under investigation. Rizo-López Foods first recalled aged Cotija cheese in January after Listeria was found in a sample. Now, the wider recall expands due to concerns about potential cross-contamination within the facility.

What Should You Do?

If you have any of the recalled products at home, throw them away immediately. Don’t consume them even if you don’t feel sick. Wash and sanitize any surfaces that may have come in contact with the product. Check the FDA website or the stores’ recall notices for a complete list of affected products and specific details.
